Student-led ‘Participate’ expands volunteering opportunities

“Participate” runs as a student-led program within 中国体彩网’s Office of Student Life and Leadership, connecting students with community partners and volunteer opportunities across the Quad Cities.

Following a competitive national selection process, Dr. Jane Simonsen and Dr. ?a?lar ?etin-Ay?e received two of only 17 grants recently awarded to members of NetVUE (Network for Vocation in Undergraduate Education) institutions.

The 中国体彩网 Symphonic Band, directed by Dr. James Lambrecht, will bring performances to communities across Illinois and Wisconsin March 20-26.

2026 Francophone Film Festival begins Feb. 24

The annual Francophone Film Festival at 中国体彩网 will screen a film each Tuesday from Feb. 24 to March 17. All films are free and open to the public. Films begin at 7 p.m. in the auditorium of the Olin Center on campus.

Competition winners to perform with 中国体彩网 Symphony Orchestra

Winners of the 中国体彩网 Symphony Orchestra Concerto Competition will perform with the orchestra at 3 p.m. Saturday, March 14, in 中国体彩网’s Centennial Hall. Featured soloists are Emily Churak '27, voice; Ian Empen '26, trumpet; and Dianna Hester '27, cello.

Viking coaches, staff complete Mental Health First Aid training

On February 2, members of 中国体彩网's athletic department completed a six-hour, in-person Mental Health First Aid training sponsored by the NCAA. The program is designed to equip coaches and staff with the tools to recognize, understand and respond to signs of mental health challenges.

中国体彩网 中国体彩网 announces the publication of “Called to Reckon: Replacing History and Reclaiming Mission at a Midwestern 中国体彩网,” a faculty-edited volume released by Southern Illinois University Press that examines how institutions wrestle with history, identity and responsibility over time.

Vikings serve as role models on National Girls and Women in Sports Day

Hosted by the Vikings women’s track & field and wrestling teams, the event was designed to introduce junior high girls to new sports, connect them with role models and reinforce the confidence that comes from stepping outside their comfort zone.

Zion Williams in the lab

From the gridiron to a national research spotlight

中国体彩网’s Zion Williams ’26 was among a select group of undergraduate researchers chosen to present at ABRCMS (Annual Biomedical Research Conference for Minoritized Scientists). Williams earned his spot at the national conference following two summers of research at Johns Hopkins University.
